60" x 50" Oil on Canvas Yellow No. 1. 2025
Yellow No. 1 is a practice in meditation. In the strokes laid on the canvas flowing from nothingness into form, in the reaction to events unplanned in search of the feeling of completeness. Art is unresolved, it is forever changing through our perception of it. This piece is the result of restraint, a work of intentional movement and vision. The desire to continually change the piece is a battle often lost. There is trust in this work, a knowing of more than what I contributed to the physicality that comes to represent the ideas inspired. This piece is a reflection on life, it is imperfect and therefor perfect. This work is a part of my soul, a tapping of energy that grants the creative act to unfold. I have sat with this piece in its current state for a few months now; ignoring it until it caught the light and my heart in such a powerful way that it stopped me in my tracks. Ive spent hours upon hours looking at it, pondering how and why. I find that the best art in my eyes is one that sparks the deepest conversations, and what sparks those conversations is genuine reaction to an image created by the artist. The intention with my work is to remove the viewpoint of being human, viewing the work. It is to insert yourself into the work in a way that enables you to be lost in it. To forget all else that exists, to let your eyes dance from one part of the painting to the next.
